Let Capiche Ballina Transport You to the Italian Coast
For locals and visitors, the feeling of sitting on top of the ocean never fades.
Memories are made at this restaurant and Capiche in Lighthouse Parade Ballina on NSW Northern Coast makes no apologies.
In fact, they encourage you to make your own.
Panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean will calm even the most savage of beasts, and the popular Steak Tagliata with its smoked onion and buttery accompaniments will stay with you long past your dining experience.
There is no “best table” here.
They all are.
Go beyond Byron Bay, Capiche is beach and oceanfront dining at its best.
Come and see for yourself.
Hidden Jewels of the Coast
The thing about hidden jewels is they don’t tend to stay hidden for too long.
Whether that is a good or a bad thing, especially in terms of dining would depend on the diners themselves.
We all know a restaurant we hold dear to us for whatever reasons. One that, if we are honest, we’d rather the rest of the world not know.
So is the case for many new and established eateries in the Northern Rivers area of NSW.
Once Byron Bay held the dining world in the palm of its hand in these parts, but now it has some competition.
That’s only good news for lovers of eating out.
What to Expect
This is not a pretentious place. Frankly, with the number of visitors to this part of the coast, it very well could have been.
Why?
When an area sits next to another which has become as popular as the likes of Byron Bay and surrounds, one might expect a few fine dining venues to pop up to merely satiate the needs of those city folk who may expect the finer things in life when travelling.
There are plenty of those around if you look hard enough, but this establishment prides itself on offering simple Italian food, cooked perfectly, and presented with the service and dedication expected of a much-loved cuisine.
The interior is such that it does not take away from the majesty of the natural environment on which this restaurant sits. A simple design with lightly coloured wooden seating, much resembling the colour of the sand below. Anything too over the top would spoil the partnership between the nature of the structure and it’s setting.
Now for the good stuff.
Apart from the aforementioned Steak Tagliata with its coal cooked deliciousness, there are plenty of other dishes atop the favourite list for those who now make this restaurant a regular stop.
But where to begin?
The beginning of course.
Appetizers Anyone?
Traditional herbed and marinated olives, Peach with Buffalo Mozzarella and breads to engage your senses are the standard.
Cold oysters are a given and could just be a quiet nod to the salty ocean before you. Eat as many as you can. As often as you can. The same can be said for the chargrilled prawns which are Tastily grilled in their shells and served with lemon and Salsa Verde.
The ever-popular BBQ Octopus is accompanied with a chickpea salad. The tender morsels matching perfectly with the crunchy, crisp side.
This is the type of eatery where you and your party could indulge in the appetizers alone and be more than happy. The selection is excellent, and freshness prevails.
Mains
What would an Italian restaurant be without Pizza and Pasta, right? As you might expect this is not your chain-store pizza. Hand spun bases are at the foundation of the pizzas and the pasta dishes will have you making that second booking.
Both options are created with robust flavours such as wild boar, Bangalow Ham, Swordfish or Pork and Fennel Sausage.
There are other options for those wanting fresh fish and meat lovers will not go hungry.
The meals here are as plentiful and generous as one would expect if sitting at the dinner table with their Nona.
The Tiramisu is essential but order a couple of the desserts and share this traditional Italian end to your evening.
The wine selections only add to the flavours of individual meals, purposefully, of course, and the cocktails here will generate new restaurant memories.
Great Italian food… with a side of sunset.
Live Locally
We are told that Capiche meals are infused with the spirit of the sea. There might be slightly more to it than that.
Regional and local produce is the way to go for Capiche and why not. There’s would be little need to source from anywhere else. This region is abundant with both earth and sea offerings perfectly suited to fresh food prepared daily.
Got an event coming up? They can do that too, or if your next event is sitting on your own couch binge-watching, Capiche offers food to go.
Well worth the drive.
Many diners liken this restaurant to the perfect partner. Uncomplicated and effortless while maintaining a sense of worth and confidence which over time becomes irresistible.
