Bar Vincent Welcomes You Home with Pasta
Romantic is probably the first word that comes to mind when entering Bar Vincent.
The interior conjures up past days where manners and courtesy where an expectation, not a welcomed surprise. Days of flamboyance and ruffles, sugar and spice.
Candlelight only serves to add to the initial perception as do the archways and appearance of an inviting space. Bar Vincent may be the perfect venue for that intimate dinner, and hopefully sans the constant hum of so many other venues.
This is a relaxing kind of place, where diners can savour the flavours without feeling the need to eat and get out quickly.
Does time stand still here?
Time will tell.
The Main Attractions
Diners who wish to view a menu and decide before arriving may find they have to change tack when visiting Bar Vincent.
The reason?
The menu is constantly changing here. Every season brings new delicacies, interesting market produce availability, tried and true sides and the occasional twist on the traditional.
For those who partake on a regular basis, the fresh oysters are a mainstay and not to be passed up by anyone who visits. The same can be said for the in-house freshly baked bread.
For diners who have an insatiable need to know, here are some dishes you may expect.
Handmade pasta will still draw customers like any good Italian restaurant.
Tagliolini, a freshly made ribbon-like pasta cut with Blue Swimmer crab is a must-try when on the menu. If you are partnered for the evening, don’t be surprised to be sitting opposite a plate of Maltagliata with Wild Boar Ragu. This roughly torn pasta matches well with the comforting nature of this rich, long cooked indulgence.
There is bound to be seafood pleasure on the menu somewhere on which the market will dictate which finned variety. You may even see it accompanied by some oceanic friends in the form of muscles each vying for a piece of the delicate but never overwhelming herbed trimmings.
Traditional lovers of risotto will no doubt be satisfied with the offerings of the day, as will those who learn to the more carnivorous side when eating out.
Salads and sides can accompany one or more of the choices and are just as much a part of the meal as any other.
Wait! In our haste we seem to have forgotten the starters.
Burrata with Spring vegetables may be seen often, as may the Asparagus with Gribiche depending of course, on their seasonal goodness and availability.
Take advantage of them both if, you’re lucky enough.
Any meal worth having should be taken with a wine worthy and the selection here is not to be taken lightly. From bubbles and enlightening Whites to deep reds, the Italian tradition of vino continues with resounding Cin Cin at Bar Vincent.
The ever-changing menu at Bar Vincent is that one thing that may just set this restaurant apart from many others, and not just those in the area.
Forget variety being the spice of life. The element of surprise can be far more exciting.
Local Feel Global Kudos
If you want to know where the produce here comes from, the owners are happy to divulge. Right down to the last details, this restaurant is clearly proud of their suppliers and the results of sourcing the best available.
The sage smells like it were freshly picked moments ago and the tomato-based meals have a brightness and tastiness you don’t get from mass produced, over stored produce.
The freshness of the seafood is evidence alone that this establishment cares about what they put on their plates, and as far as the pasta is concerned, there’s nothing quite like hand made.
The meals show effort but do not forgo taste while doing so.
One for near top of the list, when in Sydney, for sure.
Move in the Shadows
It is clear that Bar Vincent holds a few secrets. Apart from the fact that the premises is somewhat hidden away in the back corner of Darlinghurst, this establishment is almost apparition-like.
Appearing from nowhere, just when you need a moment to breathe, this restaurant offers comfort and shelter.
For an intimate dinner for two or a catch-up with one or two friends, this could be just the place for you. Having said that, you will not feel out of place if you are dining at a table for one.
Feels like home.
It’s all about the experience. A local feel with food to suggest you’ve travelled halfway around the world is an excellent start.
But no one needs to tell regular patrons that.
And there’s plenty of them.
